러시아 시내를 걷고 있노라면 러시아인들이 속어(슬랭)를 말하는 것을 어렵지 않게 들을 수 있다. 물론 젊은 계층이 대다수이긴 하지만 나이든 이들도 그들 나름대로 사용하는 속어들이 있다. 가만히 듣고 있으면 반쯤은 이해하면서도 반쯤은 이해가 가지 않지만 러시아인들의 속어는 꽤나 재미있다.
러시아어의 속어는 그 안에 공통적으로 현대 러시아구어체의 특징과 현대 러시아 젊은이들의 가벼움이 공존하고 있다. 속어는 'old' 보다는 'new'에 전적으로 가까우며 러시아인이라도 나이든 계층에서는 못알아듣는 말이 상당수 있다. 그리고 속어는 정황상 혹은 집단에 맞게 사용되어야 한다.
비단 러시아 뿐만 아니라 어느 나라에서나 속어는 비공식적인 표현이며, 대부분이 스쳐지나가는 유행어이다. 대부분의 속어는 나이든 계층보다는 젊은 계층 혹은 어린 계층들이 사용하기 마련이다. 또한 속어의 억양은 대부분 발음상, 비정상적이거나 외국 억양을 따라한 것이 많다. 간혹 기성계층의 반항의 의미로 사용되는 경우도 있다.
그리 과격하지 않고 외설적이지 않은 속어들을 올려보겠다. 참고로 끄루또이(Крутой)라는 아이디가 어디서 나왔는지도 알 수 있다.
-Амбал (a big rough guy), sometimes menacing but not necessarily.
Он такой амбал, а всё сидит на шее у родителей! (He’s a big strapping guy, but he still lives off his parents!)
Не нравятся мне эти два амбала за соседним столиком! (I don’t like the look of those two big guys at the next table!)
-Бабки, бабло
Сегодня гуляем – есть бабло! (We can hang out today – we’re loaded !)

Эта крутая тачка тянет на 35 штук баксов. (This cool car costs 35 thousand bucks)
-Балда (can be either masculine of feminine) – an idiot, a twit.
Ну какой(какая) же ты балда! Всё перепутал(а)!
-Обалдеть (= офигеть)
1. to go insane. E.g. Ты что, обалдел совсем? (Are you totally bonkers?)
2. to be astounded, scandalised. E.g. Когда я это узнала, я просто обалдела. (When I found that out I was gob-smacked)
3. to have enough of something, to get fed up. E.g. Я уже обалдел от жары. (The heat is driving me crazy.)
-Обалденный (=офигенный, офигительный, крутой, клёвый) – wonderful, stunning, impressive.
Какое обалденное пальто! Где ты его купила? (What a cool coat! Where did you buy it?)
Балдёжный = обалденный.
-Ботаник, ботан (ботанка) – an overzealous student, usually at school, a swat, a nerd.
Он такой ботаник! Учителя его обожают! (He is such a nerd! Teachers love him!)
-Водила, бомбила – a taxi driver or anyone who makes a living by driving people.
Он крутой водила! Двадцать лет по Москве мотается! (He’s a great driver! He’s been driving around Moscow for 20 years!)
-Грузить (perf. загрузить, нагрузить) – to load someone with unnecessary dull information.
Прекрати меня грузить! Я в курсе. (Stop loading me with this crap! I know it all.)
-До лампочки (= до фонаря) – don’t care, don’t want to know. E.g. Мне до лампочки, что ты думаешь! (I don’t give a toss what you think!)
-Доставать (perf. достать) – to annoy, to get on someone’s nerves, to pester.
Хватит меня доставать дурацкими расспросами! (Give me a break from your stupid questions!)
Достаться – to be annoyed, bored, pestered by someone. E.g. Я достался (досталась) от вас! = Вы меня достали!
-Зажигать – to have fun, usually at a party or going out to places.
Мы до утра зажигали! (We had a great time all night!)
-Классный (=крутой, клёвый) – cool, wicked.
Классный фильм!
Класс – something cool (used as a noun) E.g. Вот это класс! (That’s cool!) Покажи класс! (Show us how to do it properly!)
Классно – a corresponding adverb, usually used on its own as an exclamation. E.g. Классно! (=Круто!)

У меня новый крутой телефон. (I have a cool new phone.)

-Колбасить – to feel unwell or unsettled.
Что-то меня колбасит сегодня. (I am feeling a bit strung out today.)
-Колбаситься – to run around making a lot of fuss about nothing.
Ну что ты всё колбасишься? Успокойся, наконец! (What’s all this running around for? Calm down already!)
Мент (мусор) – a cop.
Что-то там на площади ментов (мусоров) собралось целая куча. Случилось что-то, что-ли? (There are a whole load of cops in the square. Looks like something has happened.)
-Ментура (ментовка) – cop shop, nick, police station.
Он просидел в ментовке целый день. (He spent the whole day at the nick.)
To the same theme, oбезьянник is the cell in the police station where all the detainees are kept.
-Ментовский – belonging to the cops.
ментовская машина, ментовская форма, etc.
-Мобильник (мобила, мобилка) – a mobile phone.
Позвони мне на мобильник. (Call me on the mobile.)
-Мыло – an e-mail, a message received by e-mail.
Когда узнаешь, как с ним связаться, скинь мне на мыло. (When you find out how to get in touch with him, drop me an e-mail.)
-Навороченный – very advanced, sophisticated, “all singing all dancing”.
Какой у тебя навороченный компьютер! Меня завидки берут! (What an all singing all dancing computer you’ve got! I am envious!)
-Наезжать (perf. наехать) – to attack, physically or verbally, to confront somebody about something.
Перестань на меня наезжать! (Stop harassing me/get off my back, will you?) За что ты так на него наехал? (Why did you give him all this grief?)
-Наезд – a corresponding noun, an attack, a confrontation.
Что это за наезды такие? (What’s all this aggro for?)
-Наплевать – not to care. Usually used as “Мне (ему, ей, etc) наплевать.”
Мне наплевать, что они думают. (I don’t care what they think.). Им на это наплевать! (They don’t care about this!)
-Облом – a failure, a fiasco.
Облом мне вчера вышел! (I went away with nothing yesterday, or: I couldn’t do what I wanted yesterday.)
-Обломать – a corresponding verb, to cause failure, to undermine someone’s actions.
Хорошо его обломали на экзамене! (He completely blew the exam, didn’t he?)
-Обломаться – a corresponding reflexive verb.
1. To get into a situation of failure.
Он обломался на экзамене.
2. to get fed up and reluctant to do something.
Обломалась я с тобой спорить! (I can’t be bothered to argue with you.)
-Отпад – unbelievable, terrific, or shocking. Usually used on its own as an exclamation.

-Быть в отпаде – to be in a state of shock or disbelief.
Я была в полном отпаде! (I was totally shocked!)

-Отпасть – a corresponding verb, same as “быть в отпаде”.

-Отрываться (perf. оторваться) – to relax and have a good time, especially after hard work or a difficult time.
Вот сдадим экзамены, тогда оторвёмся на всю катушку! (Let’s just pass the exams, and then we can chill out!)
-Потрясающий – fantastic, great, smashing, incredible.
Я сейчас тебе расскажу потрясающие новости (=потрясные новости). (I am going to tell you incredible news.)

-Прибамбас – an interesting, sophisticated or expensive detail or accessory. Most often used in the phrase “С прибамбасами”
Он купил себе новую машину со всеми прибамбасами. (He’s bought a new car with all the bells and whistles.)
-Прикалываться (perf. приколоться) – to play jokes on somebody, not to be serious.
Хватит прикалываться. Поговорим серьёзно. (Stop mucking about. Let’s talk seriously.)
-Прикольный – funny, peculiar, strange in a nice sense.
Прикольный прикид! (What a wild outfit!)
-Прикол (кусок прикола) – Something funny or peculiar. Usually used as an exclamation “Какой прикол!”. Or: Это не человек, а кусок прикола! (This guy is a walking joke!)
-Прикид – outfit, clothes. E.g. Какой классный прикид! Тебе идёт. (What a cool outfit. You look good in it.)
-Прикидывать (perf. прикинуть) – to consider, to imagine.
Прикинь! И у меня такая же фигня! (Can you imagine – I have the same stuff happening to me!)
-Разбираться (perf. разобраться) – to sort out a situation or a relationship.
Нет, надо мне с ним разобраться. Что-то он совсем обнаглел! (That won’t do. I’ll need to sort it out with him. He’s just taking the piss!)
-Разборка – a corresponding noun, sorting out things between people.
Что-то Димка сегодня как ненормальный. Пришёл, устроил разборку, наорал мна всех. (Dimka behaved like a loony today. He came in, made a scene, yelled at everyone.)
-Наводить разборки (=разбираться).
Не надо со мной разборки наводить. Посмотри лучше на себя! (Don’t take it out on me, look at yourself first!)
-Разрулить (ситуацию) (=разобраться в ситуации) – to sort out, to find a solution.
Also used as a reflexive verb,
Посмотрим, как ситуация разрулится. (Let’s see how the situation turns out.)
-Раскручивать (perf. раскрутить) – to advertise, to push, to popularise.
Он сейчас раскручивает свой новый альбом. (He is now pushing his new album).
-Раскручиваться (perf. раскрутиться) – to become popular, to be well advertised.
Эта певица сильно раскрутилась. Её постоянно показывают по телеку. (This singer has really taken off. She appears on the telly a lot.)
-Раскрученный – popular, well-known.
Это раскрученная марка. (This is a popular brand.)
-Раскрутка – advertising, promoting something or someone.
Интересно, где он достал денег на раскрутку? (I wonder where he’s got the advertising money from?)
-Снимать (perf. снять) – to get acquainted with attractive people of the opposite sex, often in order to spend some time together, “to pull”.
Он вчера двух крутых телок снял прямо в Айриш баре. (He pulled two cool birds yesterday, right in the Irish bar.)
-Съём – a corresponding noun.
Тачка – a car, a taxi.
Давай поймаем тачку. (Let’s hail a taxi.)
-Таксовать (бомбить, perf. сбомбить) – to make money as a taxi driver, often in one’s own private car.
Он уволился с работы и теперь таксует/бомбит. (He’s quit his job and is now making money in his car by picking up passengers). Он крутой водила. За день может сбомбить штуку. (He is a great taxi driver, he can make a grand in one day.)
-Тёлка – a young girl (quite rude).
Крутая тёлка! (What a cool bird!)
-Телек (ящик) – a TV set.
Что там сегодня по телеку (по ящику) показывают? (What’s on the telly today?)
-Тусоваться (perf. потусоваться, протусоваться) – to gather with other people at a party, in a company, etc.
В этом клубе тусуются все наши. (All our guys are hanging out in this club.)
-Тусовка (noun)– a gathering, a party, a crowd of people chatting and interacting.
Пойдем на тусовку! (Let’s go and join the party!)
-Тусня (noun) – a group of people making a lot of noise or fuss, usually used disapprovingly.
Ну что вы тут тусню устроили? (What’s this crowd here for?)
-Тусовщик (тусовщица) – somebody who likes to hang out with other people.
Он такой тусовщик, ни одной вечеринки не пропустит. (He is such a party animal! Won’t miss a single party!)
-Улёт (=отпад) – something unbelievable, terrific, or shocking. Usually used on its own as an exclamation.
Улёт! Полный улёт!
-Быть в улёте – to be in a state of shock or disbelief.
Я была в полном улёте! (I was totally shocked!)
-Улётный (=отпадный) – a corresponding adjective.
-Фенечка – a cute pretty accessory or detail.
Ой, какая классная фенечка! (What a funky little thing!)
-Фиг – nothing, bugger all. Colloquial rude, but also childish rude.
Фиг тебе! – I am not giving you anything!
-Ни фига! – Nothing at all.

-Фигня – rubbish, nonsense, or something not worth your attention and time.
Здесь какая-то фигня, я ничего не понимаю. (It’s a whole lot of rubbish, I don’t get it). Что за фигня – у меня сегодня компьютер не работает. (What’s going on – my computer is not working). Не обращай внимания, это всё фигня. (Take it easy, it’s rubbish). Вечно он фигню говорит. (He is constantly talking rubbish).
-Страдать фигнёй – to do something not worth doing. (Literally – to be ill, to suffer with fignya).
Он целый день страдает фигнёй. (или: Он целый день фигнёй страдает)
-Фиговый (adj) – bad, bad quality.
Погода сегодня фиговая. Давай никуда не пойдём. (The weather is crap today. Let’s not go out.)
-Фигово (adv) – badly.
Я фигово говорю по-русски. (I speak lousy Russian.) Мне сегодня фигово. (I am feeling unwell/bad today)
-Офигительный (=офигенный) (adj) – the opposite of фиговый, wonderful, stunning, impressive.

-Офигеть (verb, perfective) –

A proverb: На халяву и уксус сладок! Means that if something is free you may have it anyway even if you don’t need it! Literally: Even vinegar is sweet when it’s free!
-Халявщик (халявщица) – somebody who is known as a халява-lover, or just a lazy person, looking for an easy ride.
Он известный халявщик. (He’s a free-loader, he’s always looking for an easy ride.)
-Чувак, чувачок (чувиха) – a guy (a girl).
А это что за чувак? (And who’s that bloke?)
-Штука – a thousand (talking about money), a grand.
Одолжи мне штуку баксов. (Can you lend me a grand (in dollars)?
-Шок, быть в шоке – a very fashionable expression at the moment, an exclamation of surprise, joy, dissatisfaction, irritation, sympathy – in fact, any emotion! «Я в шоке!» can mean anything.
Ну ты дал! Я в шоке! (You’re kidding me! I am speechless!) Кошмар с этим цунами на Пукете – я в шоке! (What a horror with that tsunami in Phuket – I am shocked!) Я сдал экзамен! Я просто в шоке! (I’ve passed the exam! Wow!)
